The Sweet Magnolia Series by Amanda McIntyre
Author Amanda McIntyre has just released her second book in The Sweet Magnolia series titled Fallen Angel. This is such a great series about the ladies at The Sweet Magnolia bordello and how they have to travel through time to find their true love. I was curious about how Amanda came up with this series and she was kind enough to answer a few questions for me.
This series highlights the fictional setting
of one of the many bordellos that sprang up in the old mining towns back in
western Nevada prior to the gold rush of California. Real places like Reno ,
Virginia City and the hundreds of little ghost mining towns that dot the
mountainous landscape out there were inspiration for the storyline. To take
this concept a step further, you’d have to understand that I love to get into
my character’s heads and play around with them (twisted, I know;). So I thought, “what if” the idea of traveling
through time, had less to do with a machine, like a Tardis (Dr. Who fans out there?), and more to do
with a desire so deep that we perhaps aren’t even aware of what that is until
we find it. In the case of my characters,” to find true love, they’ve only to
travel through time.” In short, it’s a
juicy blend of sexy romance, science fiction and psychology—proving that no
matter what the era, some aspects of love and human emotions—what we all have
to deal with, in essence-- are timeless.
Why write about a
bordello?
Yes, I admit, I have a fascination about the “soiled doves”
of the Old west. In the front matter of Wild and Unruly, I explain it a little
in that the formation of the western frontier was built on the backs (literally)
of many of these women. Prostitution was different then, than it is now. Back
then, there were fewer choices for women, and no services that helped women. In
many cases, they were the strength of the small towns—keeping unruly miners at
bay, the money they made (though given under the table so as not to show that
the mayor condoned the lifestyle) built many a bank, church and schoolhouse in
its day. These women, IMO, were strong in many ways—pioneers in business, the
silent entrepreneurs’ of their time. A safe haven for abused women, they formed
an inner networking and took care of their own. Some went on to establish lives
as the wives of notable businessmen, while others served as mistresses to the
wealthy gents and gunslingers of the day. It’s a part of history that few talk
about and quite often these women are ostracized immediately because of their
profession, but if you dig deeper into their stories, you’ll find that many
were the forerunners to the emancipation of women.
How much research
did you do before writing this series?
I had visited the old mining towns near Reno several years
before, and picked up several books on the subject of “Soiled Doves” and
notable women who helped to forward the movement west in our country.
Seriously, watching old shows like Gunsmoke, reading more about these women
made me realize how little I actually knew and/or understood about prostitution
back then. I’d also done massive
research on the “white slavery” aspect
of old London while researching my book, Diary of Cozette” about a young
girl forced into prostitution in order to survive on the streets after escaping
an orphanage that fronted a “white slavery” ring. I love researching history,
perhaps in hope that by understanding the past, we can better prepare for the
future.
Do you plan on
continuing this series?
I would very much like to, yes. In fact at a readers
conference a couple of years back, I did a round table brainstorming session
with readers about the possibilities! I still have those notes and in writing
these two books, have developed some other possibilities!

Fallen Angel by Amanda McIntyre
Book Spotlight on Chastity Bush
Here are some of my favorite books by Author Chastity Bush.
The man straddling the Harley was, in one word…juicy.
Adult novelty store owner Tina James loves a good adventure, and the man peering at her through onyx black eyes is the closest thing to adventure she’s ever come across. Unless of course, you count the mugging at gunpoint she experienced only hours earlier.
Leather clad Alex Monroe and his big bike just moved to number one on Tina’s sexiest man alive list, and with every searing kiss, every white hot caress, Tina finds herself living out her wildest fantasies with the man of her dreams.
But is it all too good to be true?
There’s something about Alex, from his unusual habit of only leaving the house at night, to his amazing speed and strength that has Tina wondering what exactly the man she’s falling head over heels for is hiding?
Meeting Tina James is the best thing that’s happened to Alex in the last five hundred years. She’s spunky, sassy, and beyond sexy.
But there’s a problem…or three.
Alex is a vampire, Tina’s a mortal, and he’s searching for a rogue vampire who just so happens to have his sights set on her as his next victim.
Now, not only does Alex have to find a way to tell the woman he loves what he is, he has to catch the killer before he loses her forever.
When a tragic accident takes the life of Killian Sams, she enters the one place she never thought she’d see. Heaven … or something like it.
Desperate for a second chance, Killian’s willing to do whatever it takes to regain her human life, including falling to Earth and facing the Destroyer.
If she can defeat the Destroyer—a creature who awakens once every century to take the souls of as many people as possible for power—she’ll earn any one of the countless souls he’s harvested over the years, including an immortal one.
But there’s a catch. In order for her to be sent on this mission, she has to agree to help Chase Crawford—a mercenary who’s in desperate need of saving—see that his life is still worth living. However, she never expected to fall for the ruggedly handsome soldier of fortune.
Now, not only does Killian have eight days to find, face, and defeat the Destroyer in order to stay on Earth, she has to do it while fighting her growing feelings for the man she’s vowed to save … or lose him forever

Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving tomorrow I thought that I would take a minute to say I am very thankful for all the wonderful people I have gotten to know through my love for books. I never thought that I would be able to communicate with the wonderful people that write some of my favorite books and I just keep finding more and more wonderful books to read. If you have time this crazy crazy weekend take time to fall into a book. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and don't worry about the calories that is why we have New Year's resolutions. While you are out this Black Friday don't forget to buy a book for someone.

Chris Lange
Here are the books from a fantastic author. Chris Lange writes books with an edge to them, and I can not wait to read more in the future.
My favorite so far:A woman, a man. Sausalito California 2011, San Francisco 1899. Although they live “an era apart”, their goal is the same: find her missing father. And so, they meet…
The day has come for Anya to reclaim her life. Protected by an Amazon, she must go to legendary Palance, the city of her dreams. She has to leave her home without even knowing she was cursed at birth.
This is one hot read. Gabriel is a ROCKSTAR!!
Very steamy and it tugs at the heart also. I loved this book!!
Keep a lookout for Chris in the next couple of months, hoping to have her visit my Blog really really soon.

She’s a modern, laid back girl raised to do whatever she wants. He’s an uptight Englishman from the 19th century born to be dutiful. They only have one thing in common: attraction.
The day has come for Anya to reclaim her life. Protected by an Amazon, she must go to legendary Palance, the city of her dreams. She has to leave her home without even knowing she was cursed at birth.
She is blind to men. She can’t see them, and they can’t see her. Except one.
This story is so different from anything I have ever read. Love it!!
Who can stop a master vampire from expanding his territory?
Only one woman, born with a rare, invisible power, and hate for his kind deep in her blood.
Now she has to face the master who has become a legend.
His name is Gabriel.
This is one hot read. Gabriel is a ROCKSTAR!!
Sometimes bad decisions lead to big mistakes. Sometimes fate alone can do that.
Night has fallen on Anchor’s Town. As she goes to pick up her car, Jany is abducted by her ex boyfriend.
When she comes to she is trapped in a basement, locked up in chains, and naked. But before the night is out, her hazardous situation may not be the main issue.
Very steamy and it tugs at the heart also. I loved this book!!

Blurb:
When Tyler Garahan said he’d do anything to save his family’s ranch, he never thought that would include taking a job as a stripper at a local ladies’ club. But the club’s fiery redheaded bookkeeper captures Tyler’s attention, and for her he’ll swallow his pride…
Emily Langley feels for the gorgeous cowboy. It’s obvious that he’s the real deal and wouldn’t be caught dead at a ladies’ revue if he wasn’t in big trouble. And when he looks at her like that, she’ll do anything to help.
Working days on the ranch and nights at the ladies’ club, Tyler would be plumb exhausted if he didn’t suddenly discover that the club is in the same boat as his ranch, and his beautiful boss needs him as much as he needs her…
Blurb: THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULDN’T TAME… Dylan Garahan might be an old hand at lassoing fillies, but one night at the Lucky Star club, and he ends up wrapping his rope around someone that even his formidable strength can’t tame. She’s wily and beautiful… and she’s his new boss. Dylan’s had his heart broken before, but even an honest cowpoke has to wrestle with temptation…
UNTIL HE GOT HIS LASSO AROUND HER… Ronnie DelVecchio might be fresh off the bus from New Jersey, but she’s a hard-edged businesswoman and has had her fill of men she can’t trust — although she might consider getting off her high horse for that big, handsome rancher with a Texas drawl.
Jesse Garahan no longer believes in love. Until he meets Danielle Brockway and her tiny daughter, Lacy, on their way to their new home in Pleasure, TX. Danielle’s worthless ex-husband left her high and dry, and now she’s looking for a simple small-town to start over in — and then she meets Jesse. She just can’t seem to help herself where long-limbed, swaggering Texas men are concerned. Suddenly, life is anything but simple.

Beth Williamson’s The Perfect Score Blog Tour
Self-Published
November 6, 2012 (eBook) |
The Perfect Score Tournament is coming to the small town of
Espejo, Texas. The biggest bowling tournament in the state is going to change
the lives of three friends.
What they find is more than a 300 game.
One Night Stand
Babs
Loomis is a bitter woman. Her husband left her after five years because they
couldn’t have children and he didn’t want a woman that was barren. She is a
chain smoker, and a drinker, intent on getting as much pleasure as she can out
of life. She bowls for company – Veronica and Marlene are her closest friends.
When she runs into Jimmy Tanaka at the tournament, a former friend of her ex-husband’s,
her bitterness turns into something completely different and totally
unexpected.
Can
Babs overcome her own ghosts and find more than a one night stand?
Widow’s Weeds
Veronica
Avery needs to get laid. It’s been five years since her husband died in a car
accident and she’s lonely and tired of trying to meet men that end up with a
big “L” on their forehead. When she joins The Perfect Score bowling tournament,
her modest hopes are pinned on meeting a man she might feel comfortable going
to bed with.
She’s
not expecting to meet Patrice Goldman, a woman that inspires feelings of
passion and longing in her cobwebby heart. Afraid and confused, Veronica tries
to deny her growing feelings for the auburn haired woman, but fate has other
things in mind for the woman in black. It’s time to shed her widow’s weeds and
live again.
Marlene’s Man
Marlene
is a big girl and has always been a big girl, but she’s a kick-ass bowler,
determined to finally hit that 300 game. The Perfect Score tournament at the
Starlite Bowling Alley is her chance to show the world that she’s worth
something more than just a quick lay.
When
she meets Buck Miller at the tournament, she falls instantly in lust. When
their fabulous sex turns into a relationship, Marlene runs like a scared rabbit.
Will Buck give up his goal of a perfect game to convince the woman of his
dreams that he loves her? Or will Marlene’s stubbornness ruin her chances at a
300 game and a man of her own?
READ AN EXCERPT
As
she stood and focused on her mark, she heard someone clear their throat behind
her.
“Ah,
you’re missing a pin there, sweet cheeks.”
Marlene
saw red. Terry just couldn’t let up, could he?
“Listen
asshole…” She began as she turned around to tell him to stick it up his ass.
The words froze in her throat. Standing at the end of the lane was the most
gorgeous man she’d ever seen in her life.
He
was big, no check that, he was huge. At least six and a half feet tall, with
curly light brown hair, and a well used cowboy hat on his head. His shoulders
seemed to fill her vision as they stretched out a black cotton t-shirt until
the seams looked like they’d bust. His jeans were sinfully tight across a
nicely bulging package.
Holy
ever-loving Christ.
His
eyebrows rose as his gaze traveled up and down her body. She broke out in
goosebumps when he lingered on her overly large boobs. Her pussy felt plump and
warm in her jeans and hot damn, she was getting damp panties just looking at
him.
“I’m
sorry; I thought you were someone else.” Marlene knew that sounded lame since she’d
just called him an asshole, but it was the best her paralyzed tongue could come
up with.
“Gotcha.
Somebody been bugging you?” He stepped down into the seating area and Marlene
felt her nipples twitch.
“Just…
an old friend I guess you could call him. He was just trying to get my goat, ya
know. Um, is there something I can help you with? I mean, do you need help?”
Oh,
hell, she should just leave the building and stop making a fool of herself. He
smiled and those pearly whites just about blinded her. Who the hell was he?
“You
can help me if you’re Marlene McComb.”
“Me?
You’re looking for me?”
Not.
Possible. Just not possible. Why would this Greek God be looking for her? He
needed someone to polish his scepter?
“If
you’re Marlene, then I’m your partner for the tournament. Name’s Buck Miller.”
Marlene
wasn’t a religious woman, but when he announced that he was her partner, she
could swear she heard angels singing up on high. He was her partner. Her
partner. Well, halle-fucking-lujah!
“Oh,
right. In the mixed doubles. Yep, I’m Marlene. Nice to meet you.”
She
wanted to snort at her own inane comments. Nice to meet him. All she could
think about was his name. Buck. Nice that it rhymed with fuck, because that’s
all she could think about. He was big enough to ride. Big enough for her.
As
Marlene stepped forward to shake his hand, the air around her seemed to
crackle. When their hands met, the jolt that went through her had nothing to do
with static electricity and everything to do with pure chemistry. Buck’s smile got
wider. He felt it too.
“Would
you like to practice with me?”
Would
you like to jump in the sack with me?
Marlene
couldn’t contain her wayward thoughts. He was just so damn… hot and sexy. She
was totally in lust. It wasn’t the first time, but it was the most powerful.
Holy cow. She could hardly form a coherent thought in the glare of those pearly
whites.
“Sure
thing. Let me go get my stuff outta my truck.”
He
turned to walk out and Marlene’s knees went weak. That ass. His ass was
absolutely perfect. Round, tight, and the perfect size to caress and squeeze.
And bite. She sat down heavily in the scoring chair and tried to calm her
racing heart before Buck came back. She didn’t want to look like an idiot, and
no doubt, her pale complexion was as red as a tomato right about then.
“Marlene,
you okay?”
Marlene
turned and looked at her friend Jesse, the owner of the Starlite Lanes. He was
a fifty-something bachelor with steel gray hair, a sweet disposition, and the
largest collection of Hawaiian shirts in the state of Texas.
“Yeah,
I’m fine.”
“You
look like you’re about to pass out, honey. Do you need something from the snack
bar?” He looked so concerned, she felt guilty. After all, she was flushed
because she was horny, which he would never suspect of course.
“Maybe
an ice water, Jesse. That’d be peachy.”
He
nodded and went off to the snack bar to get her the water. Marlene smacked her
forehead with one hand and tried to think of icky things to calm herself down.
Math class, old ladies with saggy boobs, toe cheese, rat droppings.
“Lee?”
Marlene’s
head snapped up at Buck’s voice.
“Huh?”
“I’m
sorry. I’m one of those fellas who likes to shorten names. If it’s okay, I
thought I’d call you Lee instead of Marlene.”
Oh
hell. He did it again. She could feel the heat creeping back into her cheeks.
No one had ever given her a nickname that didn’t suck. Until now.
“That’s
sweet of you. Sure, you can call me Lee.”
“Perfect.
Can I warm up before we bowl?”
Marlene
simply stared at him as he set his bowling bag down and leaned over to unzip
it. That ass was going to send her into a coma if she kept looking at it. Warm
up? Hell, if she got any warmer, she’d catch on fire.
“Sure.
Let me reset the scores and we can bowl on both lanes.” She managed to squeeze
out.
While
she busied herself trying to remember what buttons to push to clear the scores,
Buck took out his bowling balls and shoes. She peeked at his feet. He had
biiiiig feet, really big feet. Didn’t that mean he had big… other body parts?
Just the thought sent shivers down her spine.

Iced by Karen Marie Moning
Just finished reading and I really liked it. Once again the story is set in Dublin and takes place where Shadowfever ends. This book is Dani O'Malley and her world. If you are a fan of Karen's this book gives you a glimpse at Dani's story an let's you have time at Chester's, the Dublin night club owned by the mysterious Ryodan. This is part of a trilogy, but can be read as a stand lone book. If you have not read the Fever Series but plan on reading it go ahead and read them first because reading Iced first will let you know how that series played out. I am a fan of all of Karen's books and of course I highly recommend that you read this book.
