It is that time of year when the weather is telling us that it is time to get outside and have some fun. If it is by the pool , at the lake. If you are like me I love to read outside on a pretty day. I have found just the novella to start the summer season off right.Wish You Were Here by Amanda McIntyre. This is a novella so it will not take very long to read. I was so wrapped up in it I finished it in about an hour and a half.
Wish You Were Here by Amanda McIntyre is one of those great summertime reads. Maggie and Josh have been friends since childhood. Maggie saved Josh from a vicious dog and their friendship was born. Throughout High School their relationship had to be a secret with Josh being the captain of the football team and Maggie being the nerdy brain. Years later Maggie has been dumped by her fiancé and calls Josh to let him know. Josh is in the process of getting his own wedding together with his fiancée Justine. Justine feels that Josh still has feelings for Maggie and tells him to go to her and find out for himself if they are real. Josh goes to Maggie in the Florida Keys and .... find out for yourself by reading Wish You Were Here. I so enjoy reading a short story especially in the summertime. Sitting on the deck , by the river this is a really fun and fast read. Amanda is coming out with more and I can't wait.
Let me know what kinds of books you enjoy reading by the pool. I will select one commenter to receive a digital copy of Wish You Were Here from Amazon.

Review of A Captain and A Corset by Mary Wine
There's Trouble in the Skies....
For Sophia Stevenson, there's no going back to the life she knew. She never asked for the powers that make her a precious commodity to the secret society of Illuminists and their archenemies.
Captain Bion Donkova would give anything to possess the powers that have fallen into Sophia's lap. If only the beautiful, infuriating woman could stay out of trouble, he wouldn't have to keep coming to her rescue...
Bion and Sophia have friction to spare and nothing fuels a forbidden passion better than danger...
Review...
A Captain and a Corset takes place just after the end of A Lady Can Never Be Too Curious. Sophia Stevenson has been exposed to a Deep Earth Crystal Root Ball and has endowed her with the ability to see gates that will allow an airship to shortcut across the globe. This makes her a very valuable person to both the Illuminists and to the Helikeians. First she must be trained how to use her powers and is put in the hands of the very handsome though rough around the edges Bion Donkova. The attraction between the two is almost immediate, though they are in denial about it. Sophia is kidnapped by Grainger who is a very ambitious Helikean and she is taken to an airship to become their navigator. Bion devises a plan to rescue Sophia and finally gets to the airship she is being held on. When she asks how they are going to get off the airship Bion says he had not really thought that far ahead. The adventures that they encounter take them from the airship to a caravan of Roma gypsies. They are hidden among the gypsies and their love begins to take shape. They have to keep moving hoping to find an Illuminists Solitary Chamber. Through out all of this they are being looked for by both the Helikeians and Illuminist Hunters Decima and Lykos (who have to have a story coming). Information is bought and sold for any information that will lead them to Sophia and Bion. There are some very interesting characters that want to get their hands on the navigator and her companion, who has had something happen to him that makes him just as important to capture.
I have enjoyed getting to follow these characters and their world. If you want to go on an adventure that will feel like a swashbuckler/pirate story with a twist I think you will really enjoy this book. I recommend this book A Captain and a Corset and the book before A Lady Can Never Be Too Curious. Loads of adventure, lust and Hot Lovin!!!

Laura Black watched Charon from the offices of the second story window. She’d rushed to the window when she heard his car pull up. The instant the tires crunched on the gravel she’d known it was him.
Even as she knew she shouldn’t, she stared. Through the windshield she could make out his strong jaw and the chocolate colored locks of his hair that fell just past his chin.
She knew from her many hours of covertly observing him every contour of his face from his razor-sharp cheekbones to his high forehead and square chin. She knew how his lips could look soft and inviting when he wanted something, but if he was angry, they were hard and thin as he pressed them together.
In two years from working closely with Charon she’d seen all his emotions. None had made her stomach knot like the one on his face now.
The way he looked at the inn as if he were in another time or place made her skin tingle with some emotion she could neither name, nor explain.
Her mouth went dry when his tall, muscular frame unfolded with liquid grace from the car. She never tired of looking at him. He was utterly virile, wonderfully male.
Completely, wickedly gorgeous.
His dark, seductive eyes that she had seen promise other women sin and satisfaction now appeared haunted. Troubled.
Her gaze raked over his frame that lounged nonchalantly against his car with one ankle crossed over the other. He wore his jeans low on his hips, as if they had been custom made to show off every wonderful angle of his trim hips, firm butt, and long legs.
Laura bit her lip as her eyes traveled up from his narrow waist to the wide V made by his impressive chest and shoulders. She might not be able to touch him, but she knew every inch of his upper body from watching him move huge barrels of whiskey.
In the summer he’d take his shirt off while working, and that’s when it took every ounce of her willpower not to ogle his striking body and honed sinew like some love struck teenager.
As drawn in to his body as she always was, Laura didn’t miss the way his jaw was clenched. He stood strung tight as a bow, so tense he appeared as if he might crack into a million pieces at any second.
There were many secrets her boss had, and she respected them. Yet, she found she wanted to go to him and wrap her arms around him. To give him the comfort it seemed he so desperately needed.
It was silly. Charon didn’t need anyone. At least not usually. This was the first time she’d seen him look so...ravaged...by whatever ate at him.
He was rarely alone. If one of the men about town wasn’t with him wanting something, there was a beautiful woman on his arm. Women flocked to him, but then who could resist such confidence and carnal sexuality combined into one man? Charon

Biography
Donna Grant is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than forty novels and novellas spanning multiple genres of romance.
She was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.
Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.
Donna sold her first book in November 2005 while displaced from Hurricane Rita, a storm that destroyed portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since then, Donna has sold novels and novellas to both electronic and print publishers. Her books include several complete series such as Druids Glen, The Shields, Royal Chronicles, Sisters of Magic, Dark Sword, Dark Warriors, and her new series, Dark Kings.
Despite the deadlines and her voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two young children, four cats, three fish, and one long haired Chihuahua. She’s blessed with a proud, supportive husband who loves to read and travel as much as she does.
All I can say is WOW!!!!!! Best Ride of the series!!!!! I think that Midnight's Captive is possibly the best of the series so far. The romance between Charon and Laura is wonderful. That being said I love the action that this book has in it. The characters that are between these pages will take you for a wonderful ride. I really can't say too much as I don't want to spoil it for other readers. Just take my word for it you will be blown away with this book. Donna has outdone herself and I can't wait to read the next installments in this series. |
